New Happenings at The Carolina Center

Medical Qi Gong with Erin Tracy

A wonderful new addition to our office is Erin Tracy of Empower Wellness.  Erin employs the mind-body-spirit practice of Qigong that improves one's mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and focused intent.  Qigong opens the flow of energy in meridians used in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. It enhances our ability to feel the Life Force underlying the physical world and to deepen our communication with it as well.

Physically, slow gentle qigong movements warm tendons, ligaments, and muscles; tonify vital organs and connective tissue; and promote circulation of body fluids (blood, synovial, lymph). Qigong has been shown to be effective in helping to heal life challenges ranging from high blood pressure and chronic illness to emotional frustration, mental stress, and spiritual crisis. Medical Qigong therapy incorporates clinically-oriented Qigong with a certified professional which can focus on health maximization or a medical challenge.

Medical Qigong can help with:

  • Foundational energy in the body
  • Stress management techniques
  • Coaching around how to successfully implement lifestyle change
  • Transforming core patterns that detox our mindsets and allow us to begin enjoying our life again even in the face of physical suffering.

Erin Tracy uses training in life coaching and mentoring as well as a background in the Chinese art of healing through improving the body’s energy the therapy of Qi Gong to address long-standing chronic conditions and emotional stress.  Ms. Tracy uses cognitive strategies, meditation techniques, and her training in medical Qigong to meet individuals where they are in one-to-one sessions.

Erin offers a 30 minute initial consultation at no charge after which sessions are 60 minutes at a rate of $95

Welcome to Jill Vanarthos, PA-C

Many of our patients know and have worked with Jill but may not know how she came to us and the incredible work she has done to get where she is now.  Trained at the University of Florida, Jill worked in the primary care setting for many years, doing more outreach work with the Hispanic community in south Florida.  After having her two girls, she chose to be a stay at home mom, putting her medical career on the back burner.  Jill came to us in the spring of 2016 with a family member who was a new patient and we soon began talking about her looking at the Integrative Medicine path as a way to return to healthcare.  She soon made the decision to move forward, going through the long and arduous process of reactivating her PA license, receiving an unrestricted license from the NC Medical Board in January 2018.

HBOT – We Continue to be Impressed by this Amazing Tool

Hyperbaric therapy has long been documented to have dramatic effects on improving tissue perfusion to help heal wounds and regenerate cells.  It has similar effects on nerve cells in the brain, improving oxygen distribution which brings about optimal cell functioning.  This is often a “turning point” therapy for many patients, working the best when the body is prepared through nutritional support and reduction of infectious activity.  After initial treatments and training in the office, Hyperbaric Therapy is provided as a home treatment with the use of a portable chamber with the goal of undergoing 90 minute treatments for a total of six weeks.   Please ask our staff for more information.

Ionic Detox Foot Bath

Also known as the “Ion Cleanse”, this device assists in detoxification, the procedure consisting of placing ones feet in a basin of warm water into which is attached an array of metal plates through which a low level electromagnetic field is created generating ions which, the manufacturer claims, will pull toxins from the body through the skin.  Within a minute of placing the feet in the basin, the water will begin to become colored, typically starting out as orange but over the course of the 30 minutes treatment will darken, changing to other colors which are considered to represent specific toxins being released.  Patients typically do a series of 10 treatments initially, ideally twice a week to observe the effects, both the changes in water color and clinical responses that are reported.  The manufacturer states that this system enhances the bio-energy generated by all cells in the body which is the energy used to carry out all metabolic and immune functions.  Their claim is that the footbath is used to increase mental and physical energy and improve overall vitality and stamina.  It also simultaneously purges (detoxifies) the body of toxins, chemicals, radiation, pollution, synthetics, and other foreign materials trapped in the tissues of the body that hinder the body’s self-cleansing mechanism. Benefits claimed included decreased body fluid retention, reduced inflammation, improved memory, a more balanced pH, a stronger immune system as well as significant relief from headache, gout and arthritis pains.

Our experience after working with this device the last several years is that many patients will experience noticeable effects which may include detox reactions such as fatigue, body aches and headache.  These reactions generally subside quickly and are followed by a variety of health improvements. Many patients find this procedure enhances other therapies they are undergoing including nutrient infusions and colon hydrotherapy.  Individual sessions are $44 with discount packages of 6 for $251 and 12 for $475

Thermography – A Deeper Vision of the Body

Infrared thermal imaging provides detailed information about the temperature of various body locations which can be useful in correlating specific complaints in these regions.  Primarily used as a breast health screening procedure, thermal images of the head and neck can provide insight into sinus and dental symptoms as well as lymph node abnormalities.  Imaging of the back can show regions of heat and cold that may correlate with muscle spasms, hypoxia, or nerve abnormalities.  Imaging of the chest and abdomen can give insights into specific symptoms experienced in these regions.    Carolina Thermascan, Inc. is a breast health screening service open to the general public that has operated within the Carolina Center since 2007.

Active Carolina Center patients who have been seen within 12 months  can undergo breast thermal imaging at the special rate of $100 – normal rate is $235.

Meridian Stress Assessment Is Coming Back:

We were sorry to lose Diane Corbin as our Master MSA Technician but are excited to announce the start of our new MSA Technician, Kay Hutcheson who will start soon.  Kay has been a student of energy medicine for several years and has expanded her studies with Diane since earlier this year.  She is becoming quite facile with the instrument, quickly developing the skills needed to provide information helpful to our investigation and treatment process.  We look forward to having this important part of our practice again available during periodic follow-up office visits.

Many of our Triangle patients may not be aware that the Carolina Center has a satellite office in Wilmington where Dr. Pittman sees patients for four days every six weeks and IV infusions are provided every two weeks.   We are currently in the process of expanding with plans to offer Colon Hydrotherapy in Wilmington this year.
